The Association “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” is a civil organization of QGIS users in the Republic of North Macedonia, which leads initiatives and participates in building public opinion and creating policies in the field of geoinformation, advocates for solving social challenges in the field of geoinformation , promotes, informs and implements activities to promote the use of free and open source software packages in the Republic of North Macedonia, with special emphasis on the use of the QGIS software package.

The official name of the association in Macedonian language is: “Корисничка Група на КјуГИС во Северна Македонија”, with the abbreviation: “КјуГИС-СМ”.

The name of the association for official use in Albanian language is: “GRUPI I PËDORUESVE TË QGIS-it NË MAQEDONINË E VERIUT”, with the abbreviation “QGIS-MV”

The name of the association in English language for international usage is: “QGIS USER GROUP NORTH MACEDONIA”, with the abbreviation “QGIS-NM”.

The Association “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” was founded by the South-East European Research Institute on Geo Sciences (abbreviated Geo-SEE Institute) with ID 6576176 and VAT number 4082010503648, in accordance with global world trends and standards for establishing national user groups of the QGIS software users worldwide, publicly and transparently, to be published on the qgis.org portal.

The principles on which the work of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” is based are: independence, publicity and transparency, non-profit, non-political action, initiatives in public life, participation, partnership, tolerance, entrepreneurship, sustainability and equal opportunities.

The main goal of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” is representation and lobbying for the advancement of legislation, raising public awareness and affirming the rights and advantages of using the QGIS software in the Republic of North Macedonia in accordance with the international standards established by QGIS and other international organizations for the standardization of geospatial data and the promotion of free and open software in the field of geoinformation.

The long-term goals of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” are:

·          To perform as an independent non-governmental and non-profit organization;

·          Establishment of democratic structures of administrative bodies, voting and decision-making;

·          Maximum transparency for operations, activities, decisions and financial operations;

·          Sharing of national and local activities in the international network of QGIS users;

·          Coordination of QGIS development and available financial resources for QGIS functionalities that are of interest to users in North Macedonia:

·          Promotion of QGIS in North Macedonia, through realized case studies, organization of informative meetings and publication of articles through media;

·          Initializing the development of application modules based on QGIS for different thematic purposes;

·          Information about current international developments and initiatives to the membership of the association;

·          Support for research and studies for QGIS and related projects for "OSGeo";

·          Sponsoring the international QGIS project;

·          Strengthening the cooperation and friendship between QGIS users through organizing of scientific gatherings, conferences, congresses, consultations, tribunes, as well as the publication of scientific and professional magazines, journals, proceedings and books;

·          Strengthening the available capacities through the dissemination of the knowledge and professional-academic expertise of the members of the association with the interested audience from North Macedonia and outside the country;

·          Improving the knowledge and skills of the Government, non-government and other social structures in North Macedonia in order to upgrade the institutional structures of geo-sciences and geo-information/data through the use of QGIS and which are related to the process of North Macedonia's integration into the EU through the organization of dedicated trainings in cooperation with institutions and experts from North Macedonia and abroad;

·          Improving regional cooperation through networking and communication with other associations and organizations with similar goals and tasks in North Macedonia and the countries of Southeast Europe, as well as all the countries of the world through the exchange of practices, experiences and joint organization of events with regional-international- global significance;

·          Good governance, participation and people-oriented policies;

·          Rooted and dynamic civil society, which influences public policies;

·          Accepted cultural diversity, interdependence and dialogue;

·          Social cohesion;

·          Sustainable national, local and rural development; and

·          Supported European integration process and strengthened regional cooperation.

Other goals of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” are:

·          To organize manifestations and public debates for the promotion and active inclusion of the issue of geoinformation in the main social trends;

·          To organize and participate in seminars and consultations that discuss the issue of QGIS and geoinformation;

·          To propose measures and activities to the competent authorities, institutions and professional services, with the aim of improving the regulation in the field of geospatial data, as well as to participate in monitoring of its implementation;

·          To organize and conduct trainings for capacity development in the area of QGIS;

·          To cooperate, connect and join other domestic and international organizations working on the same or similar issues;

·          To provide material, financial and legal conditions for the work of the association and its members;

·         Organizing exhibitions, film screenings and other cultural events with social, cultural, economic or technical content related to geo-sciences and geo-data-information;

·         Organization of dedicated trainings and campaigns in addition to encouraging the successful integration of the Republic of North Macedonia into the EU;

·          Organization of joint activities for the exchange of practices and experiences to improve cooperation with similar organizations from the country, the region and the international community;

·          Issuance and dissemination of newsletters on the activities of the institute and on events related to the goals and tasks of the institute;

·          Support in terms of familiarization and cooperation of experts from the geo-sciences from North Macedonia with those from the international community;

·          Issuance of independent and collection and publication of papers related to the Euro-Atlantic integration processes of the Republic of North Macedonia within the framework of research activities.

Organizational structure of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia” are:

-          Assembly,

-          President – legal representative,

-            Secretary general,

-          Management board and

-          Supervisory board.

MEMBERSHIP in association “QGIS User Group North Macedonia”:

Any citizen and legal person (private companies, associations, authorities etc.), who voluntarily joins and who accepts the goals of the association determined by its statute, can be a member of the “QGIS User Group North Macedonia”.
